WordPress Customization

WordPressWhat is WordPress?

WordPress? Isn’t that just a blog? Well, yes it’s a blog, but it can also be your web site’s CMS (content management system). You can have control over basic edits and photo galleries without purchasing software for web editing. With WordPress, you can update your site anywhere, anytime—as long as you have an internet connection. Learn more about WordPress.

What does WordPress do?

The following features are just the tip of the iceberg. WordPress has the capability of doing tons of cool stuff.

  • Blog
  • Photo Galleries
  • Video Galleries
  • Social media integration (Facebook and/or Twitter feeds)
  • Mailing list integration
  • Forums
  • Shopping Carts
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
  • Membership Sites

Can I keep my domain name with a WordPress site?

Yes! WordPress will be downloaded to your web server from WordPress.org, so your domain name will remain in tact. You may have seen other blog sites with WordPress in the URL (ie: http://yoursite.wordpress.com), but that is a different service from WordPress.org.

Using WordPress to update your own site

You do not need to know HTML or CSS to update your own site! If you can use Microsoft Word, then WordPress should not be a problem for you. The basic text editor has many of the same functions as a typical word processing program. Not interested in updating your own site? No problem, see my web maintenance services.

The WordPress Community

Worried about your site being developed on some obscure program that no one has ever heard of? Well, that’s not the case here. One of the reasons WordPress has been so successful is because there is a HUGE community of web developers that create sites, plugins and technical support pages. Plugins are tiny programs (often free!) that can be “plugged in” to a WordPress site for  additional functionality, like photo galleries, Facebook feeds and mailing lists.
